Secure Shell, commonly known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol employed to execute commands on a remote machine or to exchange information between a hosting server and a client. As the information exchanged by the two sides is encrypted, a 3rd party can't intercept it, which makes SSH a preferred means of controlling an Internet hosting account. The commands that can be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared web server, for example, the alternatives are limited as you'll not have root access to the website hosting server, so you could simply create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, import and export databases, etcetera. These are all actions that are executed within the shared hosting account and do not need a higher level of access. Using a virtual or a dedicated server, you will have the ability to install server-side software or to restart the hosting server or just a specific service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted via a command line, but if you don't employ a UNIX-like Operating System, there are a number of applications for other OSs, you can use to connect to the remote server as well.
SSH Telnet in Cloud Website Hosting
SSH access is available with all cloud website hosting which we offer you. With some of them, it is included by default, while with others it's an additional upgrade you can include with a few mouse clicks from your website hosting CP. You may get SSH access through the section related to it where you shall also find the information that you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You will be able to select the password which you shall use and, if necessary, you shall be able to modify it with several clicks from the same spot. All the commands that could be used with our shared packages are listed within a help article together with relevant examples. If the SSH access feature is enabled for your account, you shall also be able to upload files using your favorite FTP client via an SFTP connection.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers
All our semi-dedicated server accounts offer the possibility to access and manage them through SSH. If the plan you have picked comes with this feature by default, you just need to enable the SSH access function using the corresponding section of the Hepsia Control Panel. If the feature is listed as an additional upgrade, you could quickly include it using the Add Services/Upgrades link in the Hepsia Control Panel and it'll be available within a minute. We have various help articles and video tutorials about the use of SSH commands to handle your account and a whole list of the commands which you can execute alongside various examples to give you a better perception of what you could do. If SSH is active, you shall also be able to establish an SFTP connection to the account and to upload data safely through any FTP application which supports the feature.
SSH Telnet in VPS Servers
All our VPS server packages feature SSH access as standard, so you will not have to include any upgrades or enable anything - the second the server is set up and you receive its login details, you will be able to connect through its main IP address and the login credentials that you've picked throughout the signup procedure. As the VPS accounts feature full root-level access, there aren't any restrictions regarding the commands which you could run. Your server will be isolated from the other ones on the physical machine, so you will be able to manage more or less everything using a command line, including server-side software installations and reboots. That way, you'll be able to work with your files, databases and any applications you install in a fast and risk-free way.
